First Impressions – we all know how important they are in life, in work and in love.  It is thought that the first impression will mark you for the rest of the liaison you have with someone.  Whether it’s someone you met on the street, a love interest, or even a job interview, you need to put your best foot forward.  That’s a no brainer, right? Well, not for everyone.  For instance, if you are a woman, you have 15 minutes to make a first impression on a man and, if you’re a man, you have about an hour to make a first impression (source: Dating Statistics). I find that interesting … it probably has to do with women giving more chances and men’s short attention spans.  Since your time really is limited, let me show you how to make the most of it and give a memorable first impression that will make your potential love interest’s heart skip skip a beat!

1. Be On Time

You would be surprised how many people show up late for important events in their life.  Some people are just never on time.  Being on time shows the person you are meeting that you value their time and respect them.  This is especially important for the first time you meet someone.  By being late, you are starting off on the wrong foot with them.  Think about it, you are leaving them waiting for you which gives them time to wonder if you really are worth THEIR time.  Stuff happens, I know, and you are late for some crazy reason, but then you need to call, give them a “head’s up”.  Personally, I always arrive everywhere early.  I make a point to leave early just in case, especially if the encounter is an important one.  A little planning ahead could save you a lot of trouble!

2. Be True To You

Always be true to you!  You want someone to like you for who you are and not who they want you to be.  Don’t pretend you are someone you’re not just to impress anyone.  Eventually, you will have to revert back to your “real” self and that will definitely work against you.  When you’re talking, make sure to talk about your interests and things you’re passionate about.  Focus on similar interests and activities, if you have identified any, and this will help create a common connection that will definitely put you in the “good books” with someone new.  You will always win by being true to yourself.

3. Looks Really Do Matter

Let’s face it people are judged first and foremost by their appearance, regardless of what you might want to believe.  How you look REALLY does matter.  It’s all about putting your best foot forward.  When someone sees you they’ve got to, at the very least, not be distracted by your disheveled clothing or messy hair.  Let them stare for GOOD reasons because you’re HOT!! You need to dress to impress.  This means always looking good when you leave the house.  No Exceptions.  Especially when you’re single and dating, you never know who you’re going to encounter, even at the grocery store.  In order to ensure you always make a good first impression you need to look good. I rarely leave the house without makeup on and I always do my best to look good.  When you look good, you feel good and that definitely goes a long way with new encounters. Love, my friends, is NOT blind and looks really do matter even when you’re in a relationship!

4. Smile & Be Positive

Everyone likes someone who smiles and has a positive outlook on life!  No one likes a negative person who tries to bring everyone down with them.  Positivity attracts positive things.  Everyone is drawn to someone’s killer smile.  If you’re always complaining or putting yourself or your life down, trust me, that’s the last time you’re going to see that person you’re meeting.  People want others who bring sunshine into their life not people to drag them further into the abyss of unhappiness.  We all have negative days, that’s the reality of life, but that doesn’t mean you have to bring everyone down with you.  When trying to make a good first impression, then you need to make sure you are smiling and speak positively about things.  Be the person everyone want to be around, not the person people want to avoid!

5. Be Confident

Hold your head up high when you walk down the street, know who you are and what you have to offer! You are an awesome person with countless things to offer the world.  Just think of all the accomplishments in your life and there are things that you are proud of, c’mon admit it.  You should never let anyone bring you down with their negativity or bullying.  How to show your confidence? It’s all about body language, look people in the eyes, be more assertive, speak loudly and clearly, back should always be straight and not hunched over.  Feel like perhaps that your self-esteem is lacking? Self-affirmations definitely help … and, if all else fails then FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT!!
