What do you do after a long day’s work? Ever think “I could use a drink”? I hear ya! Me too! Some days are more challenging then others and some discounted munchies and a glass of something are just what the diva ordered! Guess who you’ll find there? Other professionals such as yourself! Happy Hour is a GREAT way to meet singles in Ottawa! Seriously, people are more laid back, it’s not a “bar” type of atmosphere, just a bunch of professionals going for some socializing and drinks with colleagues or friends after work.
I know I’ve met quite a few people at Happy Hour. There’s just something about the atmosphere at happy hour that’s more casual and friendly. So why don’t you try it? Try a few places and pick a vibe that you like, bring your friends or colleagues along and mingle with others there. Happy Hours also make for great date locations when you’re dating early on. Here are my top Ottawa Happy Hour picks located within the Byward Market area as well as a couple others!
Where To Meet Singles in Ottawa: Happy Hour
1: Métropolitain Brasserie has Hill Hour each weekday from 4PM to 7PM and has discounted food and drink (including Oysters, ahem, you know what happens when you eat Oysters). It’s a great, classy atmosphere with a great crowd. They are on the corner of Sussex and Rideau/Wellington.
2: e18teen has always been a favorite of mine for a nice cocktail but their Happy Hour which runs each weekday from 5PM to 7PM at the bar offers you lots of goodies at a great price. It’s a great networking scene where people come together to connect in a classy environment. They are at 18 York Street.
3: Shore Club perhaps doesn’t fit some people’s budget for dinner, but come Happy Hour time anyone (with any budget) can enjoy their delicious offerings at the bar each weekday from 4PM to 7PM. It’s a great place to meet new people, some even from out of town. You will find them at the Westin Hotel on 11 Colonel By Drive.
4: Moscow Tea Room as you know is one of my favorite places to grab a drink in Ottawa. Their perogies are legendary and I just love the red decor. I’ve met a lot of people here and even had several dates there. Their Mad Men weekdays from 4PM to 8PM offer you lots of great options. They are at 527 Sussex Drive.
5: The Grand Pizzeria and Bar has delicious pizza and during their Market Hour weekdays from 3PM to 6PM you can get select pizzas for 1/2 price and select discounted beers and sangria. Great for more casual atmosphere and crowd. They are at 74 George Street.
6: Sidedoor is well known for their tacos and they offer them at a great deal.Their Happy Hour runs from 4:30PM to 6:30PM weekdays. It’s a contemporary feel and great for networking and mingling with others. You will find them at 18b York Street.
7: Social has always been a great place to meet people. Their Social Hour goes weekdays from 3PM to 6PM and offers a good selection of appetizer and drink specials. They are located at 537 Sussex Drive.
Outside the Byward Market I really like:
8: 10 Fourteen Wine Bar is also one of my faves. They have a great drinks and small plates selection. They pride themselves on making you feel like part of the family. On Mondays they offer a featured wine for $5 per glass and their munchies are very reasonably priced. They are located at 1014 Wellington Street West.
9: Two Six Ate on weekdays from 4PM to 6:30PM they have a great house made charcuterie platter and several drinks at a reduced price. But I really love their Caesar! You can find them at 268 Preston Street.
These are only some of the ones I’ve tried … there are so so many more, it’s definitely not an exhaustive list. Help me add to the list! The important thing is that you go and check them out. If one place isn’t quite your style or crowd then try another, you’re sure to find a favorite! I found Thursdays and Fridays attract the best crowds but you might find the lone rangers on other nights who might be easier to approach.
Make sure to mingle while you’re there and challenge yourself to speak to someone new, don’t wait for them to approach you. If you’re in a group try spreading out to make yourself look more available and be open to talking to strangers. No stink face or snobbery allowed! See you there!!
