Service and Power [Be a Rockstar]

These posts are meant to lead you be your most empowered self and help you overcome those things that are holding you back from reaching your goals. Some of this might resonate with you, or not, and I’m not here to judge anyone or their actions, only to give you something to think about.

“You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.” This quote from Jung is so powerful. How many people have we met that are ALL TALK? A lot! How often do we, with the best intentions, say we’re going to do something, help someone, give of ourselves and we don’t follow through? More often than we’d like to admit I’ll bet. I know I am guilty as well. However, serving others is empowering because we are giving willingly of ourselves, sharing from our full cup. Alternately, we can’t give from an empty cup, we can’t give what we don’t have and when we do try we end up giving our cup to others to fill with their own stuff and as a result give them our power. This is why self-care is so important. Take care of yourself and then you can take care of others because it feels good to do good.

Your Takeaway

  1. An act of service is a thoughtful physical gesture towards someone else. You are supporting them in a meaningful and selfless way.
  2. Your life will be interrupted and you will be taking up personal time to do this, but although it takes away it will also empower you because helping others helps you.
  3. Some examples of service include giving to charity or volunteering, helping with chores, smiling at people, stopping and speaking to a homeless person, teach others, cook a meal for someone who needs it, etc
  4. Studies have shown that acts of service to others makes you feel happy and fulfilled and healthier. It also helps you focus on others other than yourself and your problems. It helps you gain perspective.
  5. Acts of service empower you but your actions actually help empower others.

TRY THIS: Think of a time that an act of service empowered you. Pay it forward by helping someone else.
