Proactivity is creating or controlling your personal situation by taking action rather than responding reactively after it happens. Effectively, you are making things happen instead of waiting for them to happen, taking control of your own life.
Proactive people use their skills, smarts and resources available to them to courageously step out and make things happen. Proactive people are more in control of their lives and what happens to them. In essence, they “take life by the horns”. They aren’t afraid of taking risks or even failing, they just get up, dust themselves off and try again.
What makes proactive people stand out from the crowd?

- action oriented
- goal oriented
- see the big picture
- are always learning
- take the initiative when required
What does this looks like?
- reading the room (verbal and non-verbal)
- being action oriented
- having goals and success points
- going for it
- stepping outside of your comfort zone
You need to create your own self-image rather than basing it on the opinions and feedback you get from others. Be confident and steadfast in your values, regardless of any insecurities you may have.
KNOW WHO YOU ARE! Make a decision to reject other people’s opinions of you and decide for yourself what you are capable of because you’re capable of so much more than you can ever imagine.
TRY THIS: Look at all aspects of your life (professional & personal) and see where you can proactively make a positive impact, plan it then DO IT!
